Mind Your Health Workshop Series

The Mind Your Health Workshop Series provides a variety of one-hour workshops that focus on mental health and personal wellness. Workshops are open to youth 13-29 years old living in Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa, and are offered at our Ajax location.  We also offer a parent education session for parents/caregivers who wish to learn more about anxiety and depression and how to support the youth in their lives who are struggling with mood difficulties. Workshop descriptions:
Body Image
  • learn about body image and self esteem
  • discover how the media can influence our concept of beauty, and how we feel about ourselves
  • learn the warning signs of disordered eating
  • get tips for building a healthier body image
BOND –  Be Open Not Defensive
  • learn about the meaning and impact of being defensive and how to identify a defensive reaction
  • practice effective responses to criticism at home, school or work
Boost Your Self-Esteem
  • learn how to build healthy self-esteem
  • learn how to manage negative self-talk
  • begin to increase confidence and positive self-image
Breaking the Procrastination Habit
  • learn to recognize the pattern of postponing, delaying, or putting things off
  • learn about “avoidance patterns”
  • discover strategies to overcome procrastination
Food and Mood
  • learn about how the food you eat is important to how you feel
  • discover which foods affect your mood
  • learn which foods can boost your mood
Healthy Thinking
  • feeling depressed, anxious or do you just over-think things?
  • learn to better understand why that happens
  • discover strategies to counteract negative thoughts
Healthy Relationships
  • learn about the qualities of healthy partner/relationships and friendships
  • recognize the warning signs of an unhealthy relationship
  • learn about building healthy relationships and resources that can help
Mindfulness: Living Your Life in the Present
  • learn how to reduce stress, anxiety, or depression through mindfulness
  • try out different mindfulness practices
  • develop unique ways to integrate mindfulness in your life
  • learn relaxation techniques including deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, and more
  • learn how to use these strategies to de-stress in your everyday life
Short on Sleep
  • feeling frustrated about not getting enough sleep?
  • learn about the impact of poor sleep on your health, energy and mood
  • discover tips for improving your sleep
Speak Up
  • learn how to strengthen relationships
  • discover how to communicate effectively
  • learn how to assert yourself in positive way
Stress Management
  • learn about how stress can affect your overall health and well-being
  • discover how to become aware of your stressors
  • learn strategies to reduce and cope with stress
Parent Support Available:
Parent Education Session
  • 1 hour 30 minute workshop for parents or caregivers of youth who are experiencing difficulty managing moods (depression/anxiety)
  • learn about the symptoms of mood disorders and types of treatment available
  • discover available community resources
  • learn how to support your child struggling with a mood disorder
